     Rear-end Collision

A rear-end collision is when one vehicle strikes the back of another. Rear-end collisions can also occur due to tailgating or sudden braking.

     Causes

Distracted driving and tailgating are common causes of rear-end collisions. Other causes may include:

    • speeding
    • poor weather conditions
    • faulty brake lights on the leading vehicle

    Injuries

From minor whiplash to more catastrophic injuries including spinal cord damage and traumatic brain injury, casualties from rear-end collisions can vary widely. The force and speed of the impact often determine how serious the injuries are.

     Legal Liability

The driver who rear-ends another vehicle will be held liable for the accident. This is because it is their responsibility to maintain a safe following distance and pay attention to the road ahead. Yet, there are exceptions to this rule, such as if the leading vehicle had faulty brake lights or engaged in sudden braking without reasonable cause.

     Side-Impact Collision

Side-impact incidents, also referred to as T-bone collisions, happen when a car is hit from the side by another car. These collisions frequently occur at crossings.

     Causes

The main cause of side-impact collisions is driver error. Other causes may include:

    • distracted driving
    • drunk driving
    • poor visibility

    Injuries

Injuries from side-impact collisions can be severe due to the lack of side protection in vehicles. They range from broken bones and internal injuries to serious consequences like paralysis or death.

     Legal Liability

Determining legal liability in a side-impact collision can be complex. It often depends on the circumstances of the accident and which driver had the right of way. Both drivers may share liability if they were both negligent in their actions.

     Head-On Collision

One of the most hazardous kinds of auto accidents is a head-on collision. They happen when a collision happens between two cars moving in opposing directions.

     Causes

The main cause of head-on collisions is driver error, such as drifting into oncoming traffic or attempting to pass in an unsafe manner. Other causes may include:

    • poor weather conditions
    • defective vehicle parts
    • negligent road maintenance

     Injuries

Due to the force of impact in a head-on collision, injuries can be catastrophic. Common injuries include broken bones, spinal cord damage, and traumatic brain injury. In some cases, the accident can result in death.

     Legal Liability

Determining legal liability in a head-on collision can be complex. It often depends on the accident’s circumstances, such as which driver was at fault. Investigating a head-on car crash often requires gathering evidence from many sources, including witness statements and expert analyses.
